A coast guard inspection found violations to the fire control systems. As well as to the flood control systems, and ordered the ship  to stay in port until the problems were corrected,

The ship had emergency repairs made to correct the problems.

They were finally allowed to leave port later than day, departing six hours late from Port Canaveral

Emergency repairs were made allowing the ship to leave Thursday night, about six hours late from Port Canaveral.

Problems aboard the ship included fire screen doors not working, inoperable fire hoses and a malfunctioning watertight door.

The violations were serious enough to keep the boat from leaving. It's not safe for the boat to get underway with those conditions according to Coast Guard Petty Officer Bobby Nash.

Passengers will receive a $50-per-person shipboard credit and a 25 percent discount off a future Carnival cruises of three to five day duration.

The ship will visit Freeport and Nassau, as originally scheduled, and will return to Port Canaveral on Monday.

The company apologized to its guests for the inconvenience and disruption to their vacation plans.

The four-day cruise to the Bahamas was the ship's first voyage since spending six months housing New Orleans Katrina victims.
