A Port Of Miami security worker scanning luggage saw what appeared to be a grenade and the terminal was quickly cleared. Some passengers were told to go back onto the ship as the terminal was evacuated
The belt buckle sells in the United States for $15 to $20. One website selling it, says the belt buckle looks like the real deal.
Their product description came with a warning that travelers could end up in trouble or getting delayed if they had the belt buckle with them.
The description says that the Grenade Buckle has exceptional 3D quality and is a life size replica of half of a grenade, looking like a real deal. It is actually manufactured with a enameled pure pewter finish.
They clarify that it looks so real one airline passenger caused a scare with it at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. The bomb squad was called to investigate according to a newspaper report on the incident.
The belt buckle belonged to a boy, age 13, who had traveled on the Freedom Of The Seas with his parents. He was returning from an eastern Caribbean cruise when Transportation Security Administrator workers found the suspected item in a scan of a suitcase.
While the belt buckle is only a replica of half of a grenade, through a scan, from the top of the belt buckle, it would look like a real grenade.
It is unclear if the belt buckle was purchased while on the cruise, but it is supected it was brought on the cruise at the beginning. This leads to speculation that a real grenade might also made it past security.
