Are passengers arming themselves in light of the wave of bad behavior on cruises? That is a question many are asking after a passenger found live ammunition on the deck onboard the cruise ship Celebration.
A passenger turned in the ammunition at an information desk after she found two .22-caliber bullets in the lobby, and
turned them into guest services during docking of the vessel at Jacksonville, Florida.
It lays speculation as to the purpose of the ammunition. It is possible the ammuntion was smuggled onboard for personal security, to commit a crime onboard, or to commit a crime in a port of call.
The Coast Guard ordered a top-to-bottom inspection of the vessel, delaying boarding by passengers by about an hour. But no more ammunition was found, and neither the Coast Guard or Carnival has offered an explanation of how the rounds got on board.
Coast Guard inspectors and CBP officers verified that X-ray machines and metal detectors at security check points on the ship and at the JAXPORT Cruise Terminal are working, and can not explain how the ammunition got onboard.
