Bremen Crew Member Gets Airlift Down Under
A crew member aboard the Bremen injured his hand so severely he required an airlift off the cruise ship.
The Bremen was about 60 miles south of Campbell Island about 700km south Of New Zealand when the man injured his hand on October 24th.
Rescue Coordination Center spokesperson Sophie Hazelhurst said they were alerted to the accident the day before but the ship was too far out to consider a rescue operation.
Two helicopters from Otago and Southern Lakes Helicopters left to reach the ship about 1400 hours on October 25th.
The choppers then flew to Campbell Island to refuel before heading for Southland Hospital in Invercargill where they were expected to arrive in the early evening.

Two Passengers Get Air Evacuation Off Norwegian Star
An MH-60J Jayhawk helicopter crew from San Diego conducted a medical evacuation of two passengers from Norwegian Cruise Lines' Norwegian Star, while the ship was 200 miles south of San Diego.
The crew alerted the United States Coast Guard (USCG) that a woman, age 49, was injured and the ship’s doctor recommended a medevac.
While the USCG Jayhawk was en route to the Norwegian Star, the USCG was contacted again and asked that a second passenger be evacuated as too.
The helicopter arrived on scene at 1900 hours, and transported the two passengers to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California.
