P & O Pacific Dawn Male Passenger Age 22 Goes Overboard

A 22-year-old Sydney man was rescued after going overboard from the Pacific Dawn into the South Pacific ocean waters.

The man was in the water for about 45 minutes after jumping, according to witnesses who say he jumped. The man is said to have jumped from a restricted area on the Pacific Dawn cruise ship about 20 nautical miles from Vanuata, a P & O Cruises spokesman said.

A member of the crew saw the man fall into the water and raised the alarm about 0500 hours as the ship was headed towards Port Vila. A lifeboat and flares were used in the rescue effort and the 70,000 ton ship did a complete turn to find him.

“The man was rescued quickly because of the immediate reaction of our crew. It was a textbook rescue operation and we are very pleased our passenger was returned safely,” the spokesman said.

The man was seen by a doctor on board the ship but was not injured. The spokesman said the Pacific Dawn had since berthed at Port Vila where the man would disembark before returning to Australia by plane.

Passengers described the atmosphere aboard the ship as a “party boat” and reports say the man and his friends had partied hard.

The spokesman said a full investigation into the incident would be conducted and footage from security cameras was being reviewed. The ship will continue as planned on its 10-night South Pacific cruise.

Romantic Sentiments Or Environmental Pollution By A Drunk?

When an Australian couple found a barnacle encrusted bottle washed on a Noosa, Queensland, Australia beach, the whole thing seemed sort of romantic. The couple found a J&B whiskey bottle, lid tightly capped, with a note and $2.00 bill inside. The note was signed by Californian John S Keegan on February 20, 2008.

The couple who found the bottle,  Angela and Frank Barrett say the note was written on Cunard Line cruise ship stationary, leading the Barretts to believe the bottle was heaved off a cruise ship. The only question is where was the ship at the time the bottle was tossed overboard ten months prior.
